Mission

The mission of the Pineville Police Department is to act in partnership with the community to provide a safe environment and enhance the quality of life through courteous, honest, and professional delivery of law enforcement services while enforcing the laws of the local, state and United States Government and preserving the peace by applying the highest standard professionalism, integrity, and accountability.

  Administration

Police administration is primarily focused on the performance of management duties and practices within the police department; and the implementation of policies and programs related to crime, disorder and public safety.  As we continue to police in a free society, it is important that we continue to be aware of our social, legal and political frameworks in which we operate.  In the pursuit of efficiency and effectiveness, we must abide by a variety of legal and ethical constraints and remain accountable for our actions and decisions.

The purpose of police administration is to guide and support all police personnel in the performance of their operational duties.  The command staff of the police department is comprised of a chief of police, a captain and a lieutenant.  The chief of police is the executive officer for the agency.  The captain answers directly to the chief of police and is responsible for all support, field and administrative operations.  The lieutenant is responsible for all field operations overseeing the patrol division, which is the largest and most visible division within the organization.

There are other members within the administrative section to include two administrative sergeants and a records clerk.  These members are instrumental in providing support and logistical functions that are vital to the operations of the police department.

  Communications

The Emergency Communications Division is the primary 9-1-1 public safety answering point (PSAP) for the Town of Pineville and the Town of Mint Hill. The Division is staffed by 11 dispatchers and a Communications Supervisor. All dispatchers are trained to handle police, fire and medical emergencies. The center is manned  24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. The Emergency Communications Division operates the Town's Public Safety Communications Center and receives information, evaluates and dispatches emergency Police, Fire and service units in response to requests for assistance by the public. The Division also maintains records of such requests and actions taken; acts as a coordination point for all emergency situations; and operates all radio, computer and communications systems in support of  the public safety programs in both municipalities.

  Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is responsible for responding to all calls for police service in the Pineville town limits. In addition to enforcing North Carolina laws within it's town limits, Pineville Police has 2 additional specialized units dealing with traffic safety and code enforcement. The traffic team focuses specifically on traffic-related incidents, including such things as the "Booze It and Lose It" and "Click it or Ticket" programs.

  Criminal Investigations

The Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for the review and investigation of crimes.  The division investigates criminal offenses in an effort to make arrests and bring the responsible offenders to court for adjudication

  Community Policing/Code Enforcement

Community policing activities are the main emphasis for the patrol division in order to be responsive to the needs of the community. Email our Community  policing team.  cops@pinevillencpolice.com.  The Community Oriented Policing Services Team, generally referred by the acronym "COPS", has been provided with some specialized equipment to provide special services to their citizens.  Team members spend most of their time on bikes, SUV or on an ATV establishing one on one relationships with Pineville citizens.  The COPS team is highly involved in special events that take place every month.  The COPS are also responsible for enforcement of code violations, as it has been well documented that junk cars, abandon buildings and warehouses are catalysts for criminal activity.
